Arunachal achieves major milestone in geothermal energy with successful commissioning of drying unit

Geotropy in partnership with the Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) and Centre for Earth Sciences and Himalayan Studies (CESHS) based at Itanagar has completed work in Arunachal Pradesh that has achieved a significant milestone for the regions geothermal energy journey with the successful installation, commissioning and performance testing of a geothermal drying unit for drying agricultural produce. The work was done with support from the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Delhi.
This project stands as a benchmark case study for end-to-end geothermal development—successfully taking a completely untapped greenfield site all the way to real-world community utilization. The drying unit has been commissioned entirely using the natural temperature and flow discharge of a geothermal well, demonstrating again the practical and sustainable utilisation of geothermal resources for direct-use applications.
The achievement highlights the immense potential of geothermal energy in supporting clean and renewable technologies and strengthening rural livelihoods. Geotropy has once more showcased the practical use of geothermal energy.
