Foundation stone for the geothermal powered cold storage laid in Kinnaur district, in North Western Himalayas
A controlled atmosphere (CA) storage facility that utilizes geothermal heat will soon be built by Geotropy ehf at the Kinnaur district in Himachal Pradesh, India. The project will provide environment-friendly and cost-effective storage for the district horticulturists and will be realized with the support of Icelandic partners. The cold storage will have a storage capacity of 500 ton storage, fully powered by the geothermal heat available on site.
The ceremonial laying of the foundation stone for the project was led by Revenue and Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi. Present during the event was the Ambassador of Iceland, Benedikt Hoskuldsson, Commercial Counsellor Rahul Chongtham, Chairman of Geotropy Tomas Otto Hansson, CEO of Kaldera Group Gudmundur Thor Thormodsson and other staff members of Geotropy.
During the ceremony, Negi also stated that the project is a product of the MoU signed between Geotropy Iceand and State Government of Himachal Pradesh.
