Geotropy ehf, an Iceland based geothermal development company signs the pact with the state government of Himachal Pradesh, India on 18th of November, 2023 for developing geothermal powered apple cold storage in the Kinnour district of Himachal Pradesh, India. The initial development will involve installation of a 1000 ton apple cold storage unit at the Tapri village, where the geothermal resource have been proven by surface studies and exploration drilling carried out earlier. The later additional development shall involve installing similar geothermal powered cold storage facilities in two additional geothermal potential sites in the Kinnour district. Geotropy ehf will be operating the facility for next 20 years and aim to provide cold storage facility to the local apple growing farmers on rental basis. The MoU was sign by Tomas Otto Hansson, chairman of Geotropy ehf and Sudesh Kumar Mokhta, Managing direct of HPMC, on behalf of the state government, and in presence of Sukhvidner Singh Sukhu, Chief Minister of the State of Himachal Pradesh and Gudni Bragason, the Ambassador of Iceland in India.
